Delete your Astitva account

You can delete your Astitva account, and the data that goes with it, at any time. You do not need the app to ask.

This page is for the people who use the Astitva app. Practitioners have their own page, in the Astitva for Practitioners app. If you also use this account in the Astitva for Practitioners app, it is the same account: deleting it in either app deletes it in both.

In the app

  1. Open Astitva and go to the You tab.
  2. Under Your account, tap Delete my account.
  3. Read what is deleted and what is kept, type your password, and tap Delete my account.

Your account is deleted straight away. The app erases what it kept on your phone for your account, signs you out and says the account is deleted.

If you forgot your password, tap Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen first: we send a 6-digit code to your email address.

The app asks you to wait in two cases, and says what to do:

  • A session you have paid for has not happened yet. Cancel it in the Book tab, which says what cancelling costs, or wait until it is over.
  • A concern about one of your sessions is still open. We decide it within a day. Then you can delete your account.

Without the app

Write to [contact email] from the email address you signed up with, with "Delete my account" in the subject. We reply to that address to check the request is yours, and delete the account within [proposed: 7 days] of your reply. We write again when it is done. The same waits apply: we tell you if a session or a concern has to be settled first.

If you no longer have that email address, write from any address and tell us. We will work out with you how to show the account is yours before we delete anything.

A request by email cannot reach your phone. To remove what Astitva keeps there, uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your phone's settings.

What is deleted

On our servers, straight away:

  • your account: you can no longer sign in, and your password is deleted;
  • your profile: your name, date of birth and gender;
  • your posts and replies in Talk. Each one shows "Removed by its author" instead, without your words or your name. Replies other members wrote under your posts are theirs, and stay;
  • your notifications, and the device tokens that let us reach your phone (from [version]);
  • your lab details, and the laboratory's PDF of each of your reports (from [version]);
  • the record of your Astitva Plus purchases (from [version]). We keep only each purchase's reference number, so that no other account can ever claim your purchase. Our records no longer connect that number to you, but Google's can: Google knows which Google account made the purchase [to confirm with the lawyer: keeping the number for good, for this reason].

On your phone, when you delete in the app: everything Astitva kept there for your account. That is where you are, your dates, your check-ins, what you marked in Move and Eat, your food details and your reminders.

What we keep, and why

Some records must be kept by law, even after an account is deleted. They are locked away, only the people who run Astitva can open them, they are used only if the law requires it, and they are deleted when their time is up.

  • A record that the account existed: your email address, name, date of birth and gender, when the account was made and closed, and when you agreed to our privacy policy and terms. Kept for 180 days after you delete your account, because India's IT Rules 2021 require platforms that host posts to keep it.
  • Posts and replies taken down: a post or reply of yours that was taken down, or hidden after someone reported it, with its words. Kept for 180 days after you delete your account, for the same reason.
  • Payment records for sessions you booked (from [version]): the date, the practitioner, the amount and how it was divided, the payment and refund numbers, the payout to the practitioner, the reason for and the outcome of any concern, and when each side joined and left the video call. Kept until 8 years after the end of the financial year of the last payment or refund on them, because company and tax law require us to keep accounts. Your name, age, gender and what you wrote in a concern are removed from them when you delete your account [proposed].
  • Tests from home (from [version]): each test you booked, with the name and age the sample was taken under and its results, and the doctor's reading of it. Kept for [proposed: 3 years] after you delete your account, as medical records, without your account. An order called off before anyone came to take a sample is erased at once.
  • Emails and complaints you sent us: kept for [proposed: 3 years after the last message].
  • Sign-in records: each time the account was made, signed in, had its password reset or was deleted, with the email address and the internet address (IP address) it came from. Kept for 180 days, because India's CERT-In directions ask for logs to be kept that long, then erased.
  • Technical logs: kept for [proposed: 1 year].
  • Backups: copies of our database are replaced after [backup period, per our Supabase plan]. Your data leaves them when that period ends.

What practitioners and the lab keep is their own. A practitioner you saw may keep clinical notes, and the lab keeps its own records, under the rules of their professions and their own privacy policies. You can ask them directly.

Astitva Plus

If you pay for Astitva Plus through Google Play, deleting your account does not stop the payments. Cancel Plus in Google Play first: in the app, the You tab has Change or cancel in Google Play. Or in the Google Play Store, open your profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

Deleting some things and keeping your account

  • Your lab details: in Book, Tests, tap Change or delete.
  • Your dates and the days you marked: change or clear them in Track.
  • A post: write to [contact email] and tell us which one. We remove it within 7 days.
  • Everything on your phone: clear Astitva's storage in your phone's settings. This does not delete your account.
